Walking around so-called ‚lost places‘ these days is not as quiet and peaceful as it used to be back in the day. As soon as I step a foot into the remains of an abandoned hospital, mansion or shop, I bump into whole groups of urban explorers who make the night brighter than the day with their flashlights and cameras, in search of mysterious things long gone and dead that tell them a story.
During their stay they wouldn´t ever notice certain things hidden in the walls, the basement…but *I* do. I can smell and sense them: Rotting corpses of murder victims, well hidden and cemented into the wall behind the surreal painting. Piles of rat-shit covering the carpets. Whole rat-families gnawing at what´s left of human or animal corpses.
Human instincts are so ignorant and shallow. They only notice what could be of use.
As I enter further rooms of the deserted building that once hosted an opulent clothing store back in the golden ´20s, I step into what looks like the former cantina. My senses are heightened: I notice a heavy case of human decay. The dirty kitchen offers a lot to intake at once. Crusted dishes, clumped fat hanging on walls and furniture, a pot that melted on the stove and all is covered by heavy vandalism.
I´m drawn to that pot by a very faint and very old odor only damned creatures can detect.
Cooked human flesh.
Maybe a cannibal got interrupted here while preparing dinner? Let´s check the fridge, if there´s something left by any chance.
